Mikono Association Inc is a community health initiative operated by a group of people in Perth, Western Australia aiming to support the training of health workers in developing nations.

"Mikono" is a Swahili term for "hands". Hands symbolise our work and service in the field of health, and also represent our commitment in friendship and relationships. We want to connect with health workers in developing countries and assist in their training and development as colleagues.

One of our big concerns when donating to charities in the past was that a large percentage of monies donated went towards administration costs, salaries of workers and so on, rather than to the people who need it most.

This charity is operated by volunteers and with as few administration costs as possible, so that the maximum amount of funds donated can go directly to the grant recipients. Find out more about us.

Mikono Association Inc is incorporated under the Incorporated Associations Act in Western Australia. The Association also has a Charitable Collections Licence from the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection [Licence number 20891]. Mikono Association Inc adheres to the Voluntary Code of Practice For Public Fundraising in Western Australia.

The first AGM of the Association was held on July 26th, 2008. At this AGM, it was decided that applicants for grants will be restricted to residents of Kenya at the moment [with a view to expanding out later on to other countries also] . Click here to read the minutes from the AGM.
